Amy had a significant positive influence upon many homeschooled children and their parents that attended Principle Based Learning of Kansas City. Thank you for what you taught us all, Amy! We love and remember you!
Amy taught me courage
We were a group of homeschool moms in 2012 trying to give our kids exposure to good teaching and good people. Amy found us on an internet search. We invited her to meet at an activity at a public park. (I didn't think she'd show up.) When she arrived and introduced herself I was struck by her courage to show up to a group of strangers. I was even more struck by her positive energy and confidence. She immediately began to integrate into the group with her youngest, Max, who we love!
Any expanded my heart
Amy's art pieces were not just to entertain. There was always a profound lesson embedded. She had the courage to share her heart and give us a glimpse of things we sometimes didn't have the experience or courage to think about.
My memory of this box is that it was about abortion and about God's plan.
Amy introduced us to her long-time friend, Julie Sutton, who is an amazing singer-songwriter. Her music became part of the fabric of PBL. The video above honors the the daughters of our group in 2013. The video below honors our sons. The one below that features some of the moms from that year.
Amy's Art From Her Heart
Friday, December 17, 2021 at 4:28 pm I got a text from one of our dear PBL moms,
Amy Harvey. Her message read, "Called hospice today. The nurse just left. I so want to honor God in this..."
Amy had been battling cancer for several years. I had not talked to her for about year. I understood that my opportunity to be in contact with Amy in this life was coming to an end.
Amy was an artist and taught art to our kids along with other topics like government. Mostly, she taught us all how to look at life from the perspective of beauty, love and respect for self, for others and mostly for God.
I wanted to see some of her art. When I went to look for it, I couldn't find it. She said she had to take down her website years ago. (It costs to keep a website running and she needed to put her resources elsewhere.) I wanted to have her work somewhere online, so I said I wanted to publish her work on the Principle Based Learning website.

Portia the Cat series
Amy made this articulated cat puppet for her son Brett who loves his cat, Portia! She made props for Portia. What is the deeper meaning in this piece? Love and humor make happy days!
Amy as Muralist
Seva Restaurant, an Indian restaurant (8674 NE Flintlock Rd, KCMO), hired Amy to paint this mural. They paid her with some cash and many meals.
Amy's Faith in Christ
Her Savior, the Protector of the the innocent. The Lover of goodness and light. He was in all of her art in one way or the other, because He was part of her everyday.
Our Protector, Our Sacrifice
Amy helped us see the beauty of the world and encouraged the best in children of all ages...even us homeschool moms! She was the first to help us know the art within us is valued because it is a reflection of our truth.
Amy became too weak to continue sending me photos after a few short days. I consider it an honor to have these that she sent on our website.
